Discovery Center of Excellence Improves Review Quality While Reducing Costs

Goal

A law firm customer was expanding its litigation team and needed to compete with firms that already had global networks in place, but hiring contract reviewers through agencies was costly and required significant effort to ramp the team up and down. The quality of the review outputs suffered because most reviewers lacked experience and institutional knowledge, and to accommodate review projects, the customer needed to maintain expensive office facilities. The customer was looking for a solution that provided flexibility in ramping up/down, an efficient system design, technical excellence in delivery and collaboration, and ease of use.

 

Solution

Elevate built an off-shore review team with a dedicated core team of reviewers and the capacity to add flexible resources as needed for spikes in workload. In the process, we developed comprehensive playbooks and artifacts, drawing on the firm and Elevate’s experiences of best practices. We also created a centralized helpdesk for partners to engage the hybrid services.

 

 

Outcome

The off-shore center of excellence reduced the total cost of document review operation by 50% and extended the hours of availability for the firm’s document review resources. The overall quality of review output is substantially improved, with greater consistency, and the firm now can take on additional litigation.
